The United Methodist Church (UMC) in the Philippines will hold for the second time after four years the Grand Revival Worship or “Revive” this coming November 26 at the Philsports Arena (Ultra) in Pasig City. The organizing committee, led by retired Supreme Court Justice Reynato Puno and the three bishops of the Philippines Central Conference, announced that the event will start from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s theme is: “Go in Faith. Go in Power. Go in Unity.”
The quadrennial gathering was organized as “a call to stand fast and pray for the Holy Spirit’s work in the hearts of United Methodists and other Christians in the country.” The UMC is a mainstream Protestant denomination that was brought along by the Americans at the turn of the 20th century. It claims a membership of more than 200,000 serving more than a million people.
“After this year’s Revive, the next one will be held in the year 2020 and every four years thereafter,” said the Rev. Abet Cedillo, a member of the Revive organizing committee. It was first held on Nov. 30, 2012. More than 10,000 persons trooped to the venue to listen to local and foreign speakers and the 500-voice choir conducted by Christian singer-songwriter Arnel de Pano.
